The Empty Pitchers took two from the Remainders on another beautiful Sunday afternoon.
In the early game, the Pitchers shook off their offensive doldrums in the third inning, scoring 9 runs, and going on to win 12-3. The stars included a still-gimpy Jason (3-for-3, 3 RBIs, run scored), Brian (3-3, 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored), and Raul, who was able to pitch his way out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth. And making her fall season debut, Julie also contributed some fine glove work at second.
The Pitchers took the second game, 8-4, in a workmanlike win over a Remainders team that had insisted on playing by the [2006-07] Rules late in Game 1. But no matter. After giving up three runs in the first inning (which saw an unconscionable Pigpen-takeout of Julie at the plate), the Pitchers wasted no time in retaliating, taking the lead back for good in the top of the second inning.
Pitcher David found some hustle in his heart, making the “L” in LBD stand for “Lightening” on the base paths. David went 3-for-3 in supporting his own cause, culminating in the legging-out of an inside-the-park home run to end the game’s scoring. Kristine contributed a pair of hits in the win, rookie Abbey (who worked two walks in the first game) collected her first hit on the season, and Alex had the momentum-changer, a two-out double that scored two runs in the second.
Next game: It's the early one. The Empty Pitchers take on 'Wei's Team,' Sunday, Sept. 28 at 9:30 a.m.
